Customer Reviews

Another reliable WD Blue Quiet, great value, and reliable from experience. Purchased this 2TB WD Blue to replace 5-year-old 500GB WD Blue that worked well but was too small for my current needs. The 64MB cache on this new one gives an improved response over the 16MB cache that was on the old one. Used a free version of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to clone this as the new OS drive (the c: drive). The Acronis cloning software on the WD site just isn't as good; it wouldn't allow me to add the unallocated space on the new drive to the system partition. The EaseUS software allowed me to make the partitions I wanted. 5Vendor Warranty - No Western Digital Warranty These are supposed to be new drives. They do not register on the Western Digital web site and are not eligible for Western Digital warranty. Product description says manufacturer's 2 year warranty. Purchased two from ANDYKINGPARTS fullfilled by Amazon. Delivered well-wrapped in foam but not the typical WD packaging. Should have been a clue but I was in a hurry. Manufacture date: 29-Jul-2016. Received by me 26-Jan-2016 which seems OK. Good price. They are installed now so I am not going to return them and hope for the best. SMART power-on hours show 111 & 86 which is about right for the time installed. UPDATE: Increasing to 4-stars after very quick response from vendor that there is a 2 year vendor warranty; shipment upon receipt of warranted item--apparently no cross-shipping. I haven't been thrilled with Western Digital's warranty response, so vendor warranty OK. 4Failed 3 months after 2 year warranty period ended I bought this drive based upon Amazon reviews and the two year warranty. Generally speaking if I drive lasts a year it should last five. WD? Nope. I am utterly flabbergasted that this one lasted 3 months after the warranty ended.. I have similar sized drives in other systems that are on their fourth or fifth year, running 7 x 24 x 365. All systems are connected to very sophisticated surge protectors. 1The Leader In Reliability I own a small computer shop and use these drives all the time. I'm phasing out Seagate, even though they are faster for cheaper. When I see a failed drive that is less than 2 years old, it's almost never a Western Digital. I've seen failed HGST, Toshiba, and mostly Seagate. There is a reason these have 5 stars. They are rock solid reliable. 5Drive works fine after it's recognized by Windows 10 This is the hard drive only. No mounting screws, instructions, or cables are included. You'll need an SATA cable. My Dell desktop computer had an open slot with brackets and a free power connector. I used two screws that I already had to install the drive.I installed it as the second drive in my computer that's running Windows 10. It isn't a plug-and-play device right out of the box. When you start your computer after installing the drive, Windows doesn't recognize it. The new drive will appear in the Device Manager under Disk drives, but it won't appear in the This PC window. That's because the new drive needs to have a letter assigned to it.Before you install the drive, download the WD Blue User Guide from the Western Digital web site. Also write down the serial number on the drive label because you'll need it to register the drive with WD for the warranty. To assign a drive letter and format it as the second drive using Windows 10:1. Right-click the Windows (Start) button and select Disk Management.2. Follow the Partitioning/Formatting instructions under 5 - Alternate Instructions for Installing a Drive (Windows 7/Windows Vista) in the WD Blue User Guide.WD hasn't updated the guide for Windows 8 or 10, but those instructions worked for me. After assigning a drive letter and doing the quick format from the Computer Management window, the drive was recognized and appeared in the This PC window, ready for use.Other reviews mention a clicking sound coming from the drive. I heard some clicking after I copied a lot of files to the drive. The clicking stopped after a while, so the drive isn't defective. It's a good drive at a reasonable price. 5No frills vanilla 2TB disk drive for online archive. Got this to replace a functionally identical 2TB WD Green drive that had failed after about 5 years of service. As others noted, the old Green 2TB is the new Blue 2TB. Maybe WD made improvements or cost reductions on the inside but from outside it is the identical drive. We use this as the online "live" backup of our Google Drive. We stage our large uploads here and periodically refresh our offline backup from here. So speed is not nearly as important as longevity and capacity. It is plenty fast for our needs.Note: we always plan for drive failure. It is astonishing that modern technology works at all. Always have at least 2 layers of backup, and be willing to lose whatever isn't backed up. I suppose we should do RAID as well. Really we let Google do the RAID and we do multiple backups. Keep a backup off-site too.So, recommended. Id sat I'd buy this again but I expect by the time this fails, prices on larger SSD will have come down. 4Great backup drive I've been using this as a sequential backup drive for about a year now. My internal drive is a 1 TB drive so 2 TB allows a bit of archiving in case I discover I need to get an old version of something. 5400 rpm isn't the fastest thing but I use automated backup software so it is all happening in the background in its own good time every 3 hours and I don't care about speed. I also use older Mac computers and I believe there's something about them not being able to boot from drives larger than 2 TB. Anyway, this meets my needs. As for reliability, this one has been running for a year with backups every 3 hours. I think with this kind of thing you'll either get something DOA and have to take the luck of the draw, or it will work and keep on working for several years. I do own a couple of green drives too but I prefer a blue (a quality step above greens, plus slightly different operational behavior) for a backup drive. 5Read this about Western Digital drives. Western Digital has a problem with their drives overall it seems. Had problems from the git go with drive being hard to access after computer went to sleep. Wouldn t wake up and affected entire computer performance requiring a hard reboot. Looked on the internet and found a lot of information regarding the issue, but no viable fix that worked and I tried several. Seems most of their drives have issues. Finally had enough and got a Seagate drive and problem is gone and computer performance improved 1000%. Wished I had sent it back early on. I spent 6 months working with drive and so glad I replaced it. 1Arrived DOA I am a Western Digital bigot and have had excellent experiences with their products, some still operating after 8 years. This item is totally dead, will not spin up (tried it on multiple computers) and no luck. Very familiar with hard drive installations, setup, etc., but this is the very first drive I've ever received that was completely dead. Yes, I'm still a WD fan and will consider this a fluke as compared to over 45 drives that worked perfectly. 1FAILED AFTER ONLY 18 MONTHS BIOHD-8 ERROR NOT RECOVERABLE WD20EZRZ Two terabyte hard drive completely failed after only 18 months of light use. Replacing with a Toshiba drive as this is the second Western Digital hard drive failure for me. Expect warranty replacement to be made but I will never put a WD drive in a critical application again. Quality / durability appears to be a problem, possibly based on location of manufacture. I can t afford to spend my time restoring my system due to WD s failure to provide a decent hard drive that will last a reasonable time. 1
