Customer Reviews

very pleased I wanted a small wired keyboard that would work well for bios and other pre-boot scenarios don't work. function keys are function keys, and not doubling as some other media shortcut. I was able to pull this out of the box and access a bios i wasn't able to reach with fancier keyboards. The size is perfect for my use case since i wanted something compact and easy to store. quality was surprisingly good given the low cost. 5Overall Acceptable, but some issuesThe layout of the keys on this keyboard is fine. I like the locations of the dedicated Delete, Home, Page Up, Page Down, and End keys. In addition, the layout of the lowest row of keys is very good. The sizes of the Back Space, Enter, and Shift keys are also to my liking. However, I was surprised to discover that the typical collapsible legs found along the bottom top of similar compact keyboards is missing on this model. As delivered, the keyboard lies too flat for my liking. It needed more of a slope for comfortable typing, at least for me.I addressed this issue by cutting a piece of 11-1/2 X 2-1/4 X 3/4 inch plywood at a 10 degree angle using a small band saw, and then securing it along the bottom top of the keyboard using double sided tape (see attached image). This modification results in a more comfortable keyboard angle for me.The feel of the keys also leaves a bit to be desired. There is no tactile feedback indicating the key has "tripped". I sometimes find that keys I have pressed have not provided the character indicated on the key. This seems to be especially so on the space key.I am getting more adapted to this keyboard with time, and so I would likely purchase it again despite these issues.4Layout While the letters and numbers retain their same positions, the commands on the right have changed, and I see no particular reason for it. My right pinkie still has trouble retraining itself. 4great mini keyboard I use this when I travel to someone's house to help fix their computer (I'm kind of a community nerd). It fits inside my travel case and now I don't have to carry a separate keyboard in addition to the rest of my tools. This keyboard doesn't have a separate number pad but it had to be sacrificed in order to make it such a small size. If you really need it, it has a Fn key that can be used in conjunction with numbers in blue on the right side of the board. If you zoom in on the keyboard you can see what I mean. 5Works perfect at my standup desk I had difficulty finding a mini keyboard with everything I needed and this one had it all and inexpensive! What I needed: all 12 functions keys (I work with software and use function keys all day), a regular size space bar, compact but same size keys/set up as a regular keyboard but just minus the number pad, and a light indicating cap lock. The keys are a bit closer together than my regular sized keyboard but I got used to it. Works perfect at my standup desk! 5Nice little keyboard for a bargain price My reason for buying this small keyboard was to replace a large keyboard for a media center server. Since the server is primarily controlled by a remote control I wanted a keyboard which consumed very little real estate on the shelf. This keyboard met the size requirement quite nicely.I did not have any problems connecting it (gotta love USB). It is very comfortable for the small amount of typing I use it for. There is enough gap between the keys that I can feel for the correct keys without having to keep looking down. The feel of the keyboard is not quite that of a laptop, but for the money I didn't expect it to be! 5Not quiet keys, they are spongy.I had high hopes for this keyboard because people said the keys are quiet. I guess this is a little bit like webcam reviews where 80% of the reviewers have never used a good keyboard. I'm giving the keys a subpar rating. I wanted to like this keyboard, but it's better to put a normal USB hub on your desk and put a plain RF receiver into it; you can't trust Bluetooth because your computer & mobile devices can get hacked. You can't fully trust RF either but most of the good mini keyboards aren't wired if you use a password manager it mitigates the problem. The problem is when a thief comes up to your house with a hacking device. Chances are they won't plant a device there to monitor your RF keyboard, but they might hack your computer using Bluetooth and then install spyware. RF is good enough for most users but not recommend for highly critical work, you must use a wired keyboard. I have dubbed the Arteck 2.4G Wireless Keyboard Stainless Steel Ultra Slim Keyboard the winner of the best cheap keyboard competition.3Great Size For Low PriceI needed a replacement for a full-size keyboard after many years use had worn several letters off. I just do basic home stuff on the keyboard so I didn't need the numeric pad, plus a smaller size would work better on the pull-out shelf. This keyboard has all the keys I need and they're in a logical placement. Basically it's as if I chopped off the part of a full-size keyboard that I didn't need. There are rubber feet that minimize movement, it is solid with no flexing, the tilt angle is good, and the keys make a pleasant sound. I can't say anything about longevity yet but at this price I should get my money's worth out of it.5This, to Me, is a Nearly-Perfect Keyboard I like this keyboard so much that I'll probably buy another one as a spare. It's the first keyboard I've come across in a long time that combines all the things I want in a keyboard. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because I would have liked a little more slope. That's something I can fix with a couple of shims, however; so let me tell you about what I *do* like about this keyboard.1. The Form Factor. This is about as wide as what we call a "TKL," or "ten key-less" keyboard. That means it provides a bit more room to the side for a mouse pad on the narrower keyboard trays that seem to be the trend these days. But unlike typical TKL keyboards, this one relocates center group of key (the arrows, Home, PgUp, PgDn, etc.) while preserving the number pad. Most TKL keyboards (as the name implies) do away with the number pad but preserve the center group of keys. The same goes for most "gaming" keyboards. This keyboard is narrow enough that I can still use a mouse on the keyboard tray; but it preserves the number pad, which I use extensively, by relocating the center group, which I use infrequently. This is a very rare arrangement, and it's one I appreciate.2. Key Throw and Feel. These keys are short throw, but they have the "feel" of real keys. They also have that little bit of concavity on the top that seems to center your fingers, as opposed to flat keys that do not.3. Not Noisy. The keys are very quiet. Not totally silent, but quiet enough that I won't keep guests in my guest room (which is adjacent to my home office) awake if I decide to burn the midnight oil. There's no clackety-clack. It's more like gentle raindrops than a hailstorm.4. BIG letters and numbers. Just look at the picture I've attached. The bigness of the printing on the keys was the first thing I noticed when I opened the package. If your near vision isn't what it used to be, you'll love the big print on these keys.5. It's Wired. I prefer wired keyboards. I'm not even a very fast typist, but sometimes I get ahead or wireless keyboards and have to wait for them to get caught up. I've also had cases where the keyboards interfered with other wireless devices (or vice-versa). So all else being equal, I'll take wired to wireless any day.As I said, my one criticism of this keyboard is that the slope isn't as much as I'd like it to be, and it lacks the little feet that one can flip down to make it so. I'll shim it with sticky pads or something along those lines to tilt it more to my liking. But if it had some way to tilt it a bit more built-in, this keyboard would get five stars. 4Great layout I never use a numeric keypad and was looking for a keyboard without one.The main requirement was dedicated page up/down keys. This keyboard has those as well as dedicated home, end, delete, and insert. Switching to this keyboard from a standard 10 keypad type keyboard felt very natural. No complaints about the quality or the feel. If something breaks I'll update my review.wireless would be nice! 5Good looking small form factor, cable clutter though.Like. Makes for a great backup keyboard given its small form factor. Nice aesthetics. I cannot comment on sturdiness, have not used it long enough. While it feels reasonably well made, I have my doubts as to the long-term sturdiness and expected longevity given the low price. My principal keyboard is a Logitech bluetooth wireless. Every so often, it disconnects from my computer preventing me from typing my password to login. So ...., one needs a backup wired keyboard to use for login and reinstalling the wireless keyboard driver. This happens too, periodically, with the wireless mouse. So best to keep a wired keyboard and mouse handy.Dislike. The wired portion is very stiff PVC vinyl so for those who will be using this item as their primary keyboard will have trouble keeping it straight. In other words, the wire is not smooth and floppy so all the kinks and bends will be noticeable (lots of cable clutter). The wire is also very long which will be great for people who like to sit far from the computer and monitor (???) but a drag for those looking to minimize cable clutter. Given this price point, this is a disposable consumer item. It does not look like it can be easily recycled (so 1 for its high environmental impact).Overall. Works great for my need (low cost, backup wired keyboard with low expected use).No conflict of interest: I received NO compensation (e.g., cryptocurrency, cash, wage, salary, coupon, gift card, item-in-trade, discount, reimbursement, free merchandise, or other financial inducement) whatsoever for this item and my review of same. I have NO affiliation whatsoever with the seller or manufacturer of this item. I purchased this item for personal use.4Best Key Layout I've had this keyboard for a couple of years now, using it intermittently when my Microsoft wireless mini keyboard was not up to the task. If not for being wired, this keyboard would probably be my favorite and I would use it for everything. Why? Because the key layout is about as perfect as one will find in a mini keyboard. Unlike the MS wireless (and all other wireless mini boards) there is no need to press the function keys just to use the special keys like Home, End, and Insert. And if you will observe, it also has a full number pad using the function key. Perixx needs to use this exact same key layout for a wireless mini keyboard. Why the layout necessarily changes for all the wireless keyboards remains a huge unanswered mystery. 5Works well with the C64 MiniI got this keyboard because I got a C64 Mini for Christmas, which is a modernized, miniature Commodore 64 with sixty-four built in games and BASIC (Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) which is what attracted me to the C64 Mini. Unfortunately the C64 Mini does not have a functioning keyboard and it is required that you bring your own USB keyboard that can be plugged into one of the C64 Mini's two USB ports. Unfortunately this leaves you with only one free USB port for the joystick, which then leaves you with no free slots for a USB stick which can be used to load new games onto the C64 Mini, but this keyboard, which has a built-in 2-slot USB hub solves that problem! Now I'm teaching myself BASIC coding and playing old Commodore 64 games that work better with a keyboard than a joystick! I can't really complain about anything with this keyboard, it has a nice long cord, which lets me sit in a comfortable chair by my TV from a decent distance while I play the C64 and gives me lots of leg room. I hope someone who uses the C64 Mini is reading this so they can add this keyboard to the list of hardware that works with the C64 Mini on the C64 Mini Wiki. Anyway, that's all I really wanted to report, here. It's a solid keyboard and does exactly what I want it to do!5Not a tank, but a decent keyboardI've now had this keyboard for 6 months or more and it's continued to work quite well for all the punishment I've put it through. My bad habit is eating near my keyboards, including jam, coffee, and other late-night snacks. I've had to clean the keyboard because of this, and it's still going just fine! The keys are super squishy, but are independently so. This probably because it's not a single membrane but individual membranes on each key. If you're a heavy typist, expect to bottom the keys out pretty easy. That said, having a USB1.0 hub on the keyboard where my mouse can plug in and one other device is great!Until now I've had no issues with this keyboard, and hope that it will continue to work into the foreseeable future. Two thumbs up!4Durable!I bought this in 2012.I still use it as a backup keyboard. The USB ports are sufficient for a wireless mouse/tablet, Bluetooth receiver, or like a fitbit receiver if you have that. They DO even have enough power for an xbox 360 controller, so there's that too.I can't promise it'll stand up to HARSH use, as I am a touch typist that tends to lighter on my keys instead of heavier, but it has been durable enough to follow me through two moves unharmed and been a fantastic overall keyboard. I game a bit too much to go without a tenkey for long though. If you're looking for a small spaces keyboard and need something that doesn't have shrunken or horrific Chiclet keys, I would recommend either this one or the slightly more expensive adesso version, which I had until a friend borrowed it..and proceeded to turn it into a biology experiment. (If you get what I mean.)5IF YOU ARE TRYING TO BUY A NATIVE PS/2 KEYBOARD ...IF YOU ARE TRYING TO BUY A NATIVE PS/2 KEYBOARD, STAY AWAY FROM THIS. THIS IS A USB KEYBOARD WITH A PS/2 CONNECTOR AND AS A RESULT DOES NOT WORK WITH A TRUE NATIVE PS/2 INPUT.1Worked out of the boxWe bought two of these (matching) to replace on of our old keyboards on the radio station's console that was dropping letters occasionally. These keyboards are for pony computers and not for our main automation PC which uses and expensive Keytronics KB. We needed a small footprint because the special keyboard shelf built into the console space has just enough room for two of these and the bigger Keytronics KB which features a numerical keypad. I'm happy to report a gentle tactile response with these boards and the chicklet keys feel nice. The piano finish is not glaring under the overhead lights, nor is it encompassing of the whole KB, the keys themselves are actually a matte finish, but compliment the board nicely. The letter stenciling is a thinner font than I'd prefer, so it remains to be seen how long the stenciling on the keys holds up to daily use by our announcers. Older keyboards seemed to have tougher letter stenciling than the ones made today and held up longer. But given the lifespan of a keyboard today seems to be only 4 to 5 years, I guess if the stenciling only lasts that long, then it's good enough. Other than Logitek or Microsoft I really don't trust any KB under $30 these days to be that durable in a work environment, but given that we needed this size of footprint at a budget price, I guess we'll give it a try. So far, so good. One was plugged directly into the PS-2 of the PC sitting in an alcove on the console and the computer booted right up and I was able to use the KB right away with no difficulties. The other KB was hot-plugged into the receiver end of a KVM for one of the pony computers. It, too, was recognized right away and was able to be used (and that was on a WinXP PC). KB works with WinXP or & no problem. The only complaint I have is that there's no power light to confirm the KB is active on the PC. Since there's no numerical keypad, the numlock light won't light, even though there appears to be a position for it right on the board. They could have made the numlock light up anyway, even though it's obvious you can't use numlock on this key layout, just so there's an "active" light to let you know the KVM or PS-2 is communicating properly. Caps and scroll lock lights work fine. I gave it four stars because it's clear the build quality is not quite that of a Logitek or MS Keyboard. But, it's still pretty decent. The boss thought they looked fine and he's big on aesthetics in our control rooms. I think you'll be pleased for the cost of less than a Jackson.4UpdateUpdate: This broke after approx 45 days of use. Also misses characters if you are a fast typer.I chart for up to 8 hours daily and wanted a keyboard where I did not have to reach over all the keys I did not use to get to my mouse. I do not like the keys as much as my Kensington, however, the smaller Kensington only seems to work with Mac.Cannot attest to durability as I have only had it a week, but I consider it a pretty decent amazon purchase esp. for the price.Update: I thought I had locked myself out of my work computer. Turns out the keyboard was entering additional letters in err. Too bad because a compact keyboard helps alleviate pain from typing.1Ok for an on hand emergency extra. Keys feel good...but this doesn't compare to the periboard 407. Space between keys allows for dust/pet hair to get under the keys. Will keep as an on hand extra...but will search for something else more similar to the periboard 407 (was out of stock, which is why i purchased this one)UPDATE....found an 407 on ebay....beats this 409 hands down. 3Excellent Mini Keyboard I got this for $8 - Sold by Perixx and fulfilled by Amazon.com.PROS* Blue Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights* Traditional keyboard layout and has blue function keys* Quiet typing* For a mini keyboard, the typing experience is good - Not too "mushy" - Keys have enough spring-back to them* Keyboard does not make any annoying "clacking" noises, while typing - The product seems solid, especially for $8.* Minimalist piano black finish looks slick***Keyboard USB cord is over 3 feet long - An absolute plus* Weighs little and functions well with Windows Vista and 7* No flexing of keys or keyboard, while typing.CONS* No built in way to prop up the back of the keyboard - Is, almost, completely flat* Keys are completely flat - No points deducted for thisOVERALL, this mini keyboard is great - If you do not pay too much for it. 4
