Customer Reviews

Product date still fresh, Packing intact, Passed the teenagers taste test I bought these for my military loving teenage son for Christmas. It was sealed very well. No loose plastic or tampering. NOT expired food. He was so pleased he ate the meal after Christmas dinner and enjoyed it. Great shipping time, And I also got emails from this company just to make sure if i had any question before or after getting the product I could reach them directly. 5Missing flameless heater. Doesn't match any real us military mre packaging I've seen before The flameless heater is missing and the outer packaging doesn't match anything I have seen. Somehow they got my review deleted but nothing I said was untrue. There is no flameless heater included, packaging has been mixed and matched, and I notice another reviewer said the same thing. 1Great food source for many uses Please read on for an MRE recipe that's pretty ingenious...After serving as a chaplain in the Guard for 6 years I have had plenty of experience eating MRE's. When I was a Boy Scout they took us for a camping trip and we had C Rations. I thought it was a great experience because I felt like I was in the Army. Let me tell you that MRE's are a great improvement over c rats. As an officer I always had enlisted personnel eat first so I would wind up with what ever wasn't chosen by the majority. You had to have a fire or sterno can to cook the c rat entree, which was in a can. That meant having to lug that around and if you didn't have a can opener then you had to use your knife. With MRE's there is a heat pouch that you put your entree pouch in and pour a small amount of water in it and return it to the entree box with it leaning against something like a rock. The water causes a chemical reaction with the powder sealed in the heater pouch and that thing gets super hot really quick and cooks your entree in a couple of minutes. The biggest drawback, which always happened to me, is that you have to be very careful opening the top of the pouch or the super hot steam would burn you. I always got burned because for some reason I couldn't open the flap and get my hand out of the way. Lol. I look back at it and laugh now but it wasn't funny then. I say all that to explain that you can have a hot meal in a matter of minutes with an MRE. They're great to have in the field and a great emergency food source. The entree is printed on the outside of the pouch so you know what your getting before opening it. And if you got one you didn't like then hopefully you can find someone to trade with. I've seen some interesting things offered to entice a trade. LolThe most interesting thing to me is that you saw guys bragging about what dessert they got like M&Ms, a candy bar and in my experience the most coveted was pound cake over what their entree was.Now for the recipe. In the field you are often staying awake for long periods of time. To sleep while on guard duty was a serious offense and during war you could be shot for it. As a chaplain I didn't have to pull guard duty but would be awake during fire watch sometimes as this was a good time to get to know the soldiers in my care. I'm not a coffee drinker as I'm not a fan of hot beverages so I missed out on the coffee caffeine. Inside an MRE there is a tiny bottle of Tabasco sauce and I have seen soldiers rub it under their eyes to help them stay awake. I have even heard of some putting it in their eyes but I never personally saw that. Inside an MRE you get a condiment pack that contains Tabasco sauce, instant coffee, cocoa powder, sugar, salt/pepper, coffee creamer, a ration of toilet paper and a pack of 2 Chiclets which children overseas love. There is a dish you can make called "Ranger Pudding". I don't know if the Rangers actually came up with the recipe but that's what it's called. To make it you open your packet of cocoa powder and pour in your instant coffee, sugar and creamer packs with a little water and stir it with the long spoon you get. Then you eat it out of the cocoa pouch and it gives you a caffeine rush that will help you stay awake or give you a boost of energy. It's not bad and a great use for some of the things you may not want (like my coffee and creamer). So if you get an MRE give it a try and see if it doesn't work for you too.Now I've said all of this to say that MREs are a great emergency food source or to put in your pack to go hiking, hunting, camping, etc... 5Our 9 year old loved it and it was a great way to prep for the hurricane. Our 9 year old son wanted to have an MRE while we rode out Hurricane Irma. He'd been asking and intrigued about MREs for a long time and he definitely took advantage of the storm prepping to genuinely ask for one. When his arrived we were surprised how much food came in the package. The vanilla shake was good and the drink bag made it easy to mix and drink. Our pack came with Ratatouille. I would compare it to a canned beefaroni, but with veggies. The heating pack was really easy, heated up very quickly, and had easy to follow directions. In fact, the heating pack became so hot that it could not be touched. The favorite food from the MRE pack was the lemon poppy seed cake. It definitely was yummy! The coffee dissolved quickly in warm water and having the sugar, creamer and spoon made it a breeze to prepare. I was surprised how much food and snacks came with the pack. Overall, the MRE was definitely worth it. Our son thinks we should order more to begin prepping for the next hurricane. :) 5Missing heater The heater was missing and the packaging was different from a standard MRE. In the military the term "field strip," is used to describe the process of taking out all of the unnecessary components of an MRE to lighten the load. That is what I got with this MRE, except that I wanted the extras, including the heater. 1Overall, it was tasty meal pack that had an entree & snacks which was easy to prepare. I reordered more. Holy smokes! I used this as my regular meal - freeze drying leaves the nutrients, taste and texture of the food intact which I love, and this lasts longer than the frozen meals. Mine was "pork in white sauce" - I can't remember the exact name (I'm getting old...) Inside of the package were variety of foods, I was impressed!Overall, it was tasty meal pack that had an entree & snacks which was easy to prepare (I'm working on the heater thing - user's incompetence I hope).Typical Contents: Entree - pork in white sauce of some kind. It was good. Side dish - I got a granola mix that was surprisingly good. Had blueberries in it. I got the cracker & the cheese spread which were good. (Unfortunately so did my cat. There was a bit of "fighting" over the custody of the cheese spread but at the end I won. Yes... I did give her some because she liked it so much and I felt guilty. Just a small bit as she may be lactose intolerant.) Dessert - Chocolate muffin top - OMG, it was AWESOME! Candy - I can't remember if I got the candy. Crap... Where do you think I put it? I was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in the pack. Beverages - I received the lemon & lime powdered drink and the coffee. Flameless Ration Heater - instructions was bit unclear, and it took me a while to figure it out. It didn't properly heat up the main entree though. I'll need to retry this heating method and see where I went wrong. The "carton" that I was suppose to use was not easily identified - should have said a "foldable cardboard sleeve". Accessory Pack - spoon, matches (special matches that can lite in a damp environment, I'm keeping it "just in case), coffee, creamer, sugar, salt, chewing gum & toilet paper.I was very pleased with it and ordered two more packs. I know you can get the specific entree but those were $2 more. Since I wanted to taste variety of meals, I chose this item which comes in "assorted flavors" = surprise!I highly recommend it. 5Would not hesitate to buy again. Received a beef roast with vegetables from seller Western Frontier. Very impressed with the beef roast as it was very tasty. Had noodles and small veggies inside. My meal also came with wheat snack bread (tasted fine, dry but very heavy and filling, chocolate peanut spread (hazelnut spread - really good), cherry-blueberry cobbler (amazing!!!) and a orange creamsicle cookie (also excellent). I wish I could buy the cherry-blueberry cobbler in the store, it was that good. There were pastry bits mixed in with the cobbler, it's not just fruit. Also included was a cocoa mix, a spoon and the usual coffee/creamer/wipes. The heater stayed hot for a good 15-20 min. Heated up the beef roast very well, actually burned my tongue. Had enough power left to heat the cobbler luke warm and did nothing to heat the cocoa mix which I had no problem drinking room temp. Cocoa wasn't great but average.I have a very high metabolism and this entire meal did a decent job of filling me up. All in all I would, without a doubt, buy more of this brand of MRE.My biggest problem with the single pack was that there was no date on the outside so I do not know how long ago it was made. I ate the meal an hour ago, and at the time of this review, I am still alive. So that's a good thing. 5missing heater, seems sketchy ate hundreds of MRE's in military, never once were they missing a heater, order one online and its missing heater. HMMM? 1According to the product description on Amazon "2012 or newer ... According to the product description on Amazon "2012 or newer Pack Date.", however the two MRE's I received have date codes of 1180 (29 June 2011) and 1178 (27 June 2011). So for $12.25 each I received MRE's over five years old and not as advertised. 1One Star Brown outer package arrived with a five inch opening along the bottom and all it's contents exposed. 1
