Customer Reviews

It took me two tries.First, I am no do-it-yourselfer, but plumbers are so expensive that I decided to give it a shot. The first install went well, but I must have mismeasured the length somehow. It ended up being too high and wouldn t shut off. After many attempts, eight scuffed knuckles, and a number of very bad words, I managed to de-install it. That was by far the hardest part of the project. The second install went just okay, probably because I was getting sore from all the gymnastics I had to do to get it off.The valve itself seems a bit flimsy, and the way you adjust the fill level shutoff is illogical, but it works just fine. I wish I could adjust the shutoff *after* installation instead of before. My advice...measure carefully, mark the tube and make sure the length doesn t accidentally change during the install.5easy to install exactly like the original that went bad. hoping it lasts..giving this a 5 star review becasue it was a very easy to install and adjust the height to the exact specs of my toto original fill valve which failed after about 6 years of use. no way to tell how it will fare with time so I may have to update later but i am expecting 5 years without any issue at all.I unfortunately learned i need to change the fill valve after i received a 3 month water bill that was 6 times its usual amount. a word to the wise is to check all your toilet fill valves especially if you know they are a few years old and also check your flapper which also go bad with time but are easy to replace. lastly keep an eye on your water bills becasue its a darn shame to literally let money go down the toilet.5Works Great for Toto CST863 One Piece Short Tank Works great!! This stops the water on the dot *immediately*, unlike the original part that took a few minutes to stop after the level has been reached (hence leaking water into the vertical tube). I reused the existing flex tubing to the vertical fill tube (already clipped), as well as the bottom plastic nut.Adjustment is super easy. I didn't follow the instruction and adjusted it once it's already installed semi-tight, eye balling the marked "water level" line on the valve with the top of the vertical fill tube, then turn it clockwise to lock it. Connect the water line tight enough, fill it to confirm level (important: if adjustment is needed, turn off water line to relief pressure), and tighten when all is good. 5Although that seems like a minor inconvenience Although a direct replacement fit for the Toto fill valve it does not fill automatically on release of the handle. I now have to hold the handle down after the flush until the fill starts. I don't know if that is normal for the Korky valve or if it is defective. It works but the Toto valve only requires actuation and immediate release of the handle for the fill to actuate. Although that seems like a minor inconvenience, when you have multiple Toto toilets in your home, the difference is quite noticeable and somewhat aggravating. I've even considered swapping the Korky with one of the lesser used Toto fill valves. . 3Works but has water shutoff issueI like that Korky is made in the USA, and It works and fits in my Toto Drake. But it does a relatively loud stutter-stop near the end of filling. What I mean is that the water fills until it nears the fill level, then you hear the water shutting off abruptly, then coming on again, and this happens at least three times in a row on every flush-fill cycle. The genuine Toto brand fill valve I have in the other bathroom (exact same model toilet otherwise) works properly, shutting off only once. I will be getting the Toto brand from now on. Hope the Korky folks pay attention to this issue and correct it. It would be nice to be able to buy made-in-US parts that work properly.3Korky vs. Toto? I bought them both.I have this hissing leak so I first swapped the replacement valve cap (made by Korky) but the issue is the rubber seat on the float valve and they don't sell it. You can either find a rubber seat (I didn't have time after checking 2 hardware stores) or buy the entire Fill Valve.Korky vs. Toto was my concern so I bought them both! They are identical*. It's as if the original mfg sold the molds to Korky and all Korky did was add new embossing to state 'Korky'. The cost is $18 Korky vs. 25$ Toto.* Toto does have an adjustment valve that allows adjustment to the bowl fill. I still will state Identical as bowl fill adjustment is not critical in my toilet book...So what I did was use the new float and the hissing stopped immediately. Now I can just save the rest until I need those parts.5This is the superior fill valve for Toto G-MaxI like this fill valve very much. I have installed its "sister" valve, the regular (white color) 528, on several older-model toilets. (This blue-color 528T has a higher refill percentage than the regular white 528 and thus is proper for Toto G-Max toilets. If, instead of a G-Max, you have a Toto 1.28gpf Watersense-eligible toilet [also known as Toto E-Max or "Eco" or has "E" in its model number and a green-colored valve inside], then you should buy the (silver color) 528MP which lets you adjust the refill percentage to the exact amount your Eco Toto toilet requires, as confirmed by Toto customer service.) That said, this valve WILL work on an E-Max toilet in the sense that it will sufficiently-fill the bowl; however, you will no longer be using 1.28 gallons per flush because this will put too much water into the bowl on refill, and that water will simply drain away; so, you'd be wasting water. This valve shuts off with no water hammer or definitive noise. The water just stops flowing. I like that. I also like the relatively-quiet rush of water when it is filling. I also like the fact that when the internal diaphragm that controls the water flow wears out in about 5 years, you easily can purchase the replacement diaphragm cap for a couple of dollars locally or on Amazon, and just swap that out without having to buy a whole new valve.Toto buys original equipment made-in-the-USA fill valves from Korky (Lavelle Industries is the manufacturing company of Korky-brand products) and installs them in Toto toilets. Toto also buys different-looking fill valves from what I understand to be a foreign manufacturer. If you buy a G-Max toilet, the brand of fill valve Toto preinstalls in your tank will depend upon what country the tank is manufactured in. The Toto Drake tank, for example, is manufactured in the US, in Mexico and/or other locations. On one of my Drakes, Toto had installed the 528T (with a Toto OEM part number and a cap that says G-Max instead of Korky), which is made here in the US by Korky/Lavelle. On the other, they had the foreign valve, the one with the adjusting screw. That valve, when working properly, emits a squeak or chirp or sharp "Zhoompf" when the toilet is full. (I have a Toto Carlyle with the green E version of the foreign valve that does the same thing.) I personally find it annoying.Indeed, I found the noise so annoying that I bought this 528T from Amazon, ripped the foreign valve out, and installed and adjusted this one in less than 5 minutes. Now both of my Drakes fill and shut off quietly. The two most popular fill valves in the US are the Fluidmaster 400A (and versions thereof) and this Korky 528 (and versions therof), both sold as Original Equipment parts and replacement parts by different toilet manufacturers. So this is an excellent, widely-used valve. Toto does not use the Fluidmaster 400A as original equipment, although Fluidmaster now makes a version of the 400A that has an adjustable refill rate so that it can be installed in Toto toilets as a replacement (but only that version.) The 400A is an excellent valve that plumbers swear by, but is noisier than the 528 and more of a pain to adjust. The shutoff, however, is just a nudge louder than the 528, essentially a quiet hiss. The foreign valves that Toto is using are substantially-noisier on shutoff and really would be my last choice as a replacement part. In the end, I really think this 528T is the best valve for Toto GMax, and the 528MP is the best valve for Toto 1.28gpf toilets. One other note: a lot of folks seem to be confused by the anti-siphon action of the Korky valve. This is a feature that keeps it from sucking tank water back into your drinking water supply. For it to work properly, a small amount of water will flow from the valve housing near the top. The excellent instructions make clear that this is NORMAL, but I have seen so many people complain that the valve is "broken" or "leaking" because it does this. Fear not. If you see this when watching your great Toto toilet work, don't give it a second thought. One other thing: we all understand, don't we, that low-flow toilets are NOT supposed to drain all the water in the tank on each flush. Filling the tank to the Toto-specified level is important, because the weight of all that water that isn't going to flush pushes down on the little bit of water that will be flushing when the flapper opens for only a second. The weight of the tank water drives the flush water through the valve quickly, leading to that great, effective flush that we all love. A video of the proper operation of the tank components is available on you tube if you search for "Toto Drake CST744S GMax Tank View of Flush". The video features the OEM version of the 528T fill valve featured here, and the OEM Toto flapper, on a toilet that is about two months old.5ProReviews Says: Easy To Install, Tested for 1 YEAR and NO LEAKS!This is a #Verified Purchase Review:==========PROS========= Very easy to install Has now lasted OVER 1 YEAR with NO PROBLEMS or LEAKS Perfect fit for any TOTO toilet as described by seller Now toilet flushes in one flush vs several Remember to stop water valve before installing!++++++++++CONS+++++++++ None -- wish it came with teflon tape$$$$$ RECOMMEND? - $$$$$Verdict: YES-AmazonPro ReviewsEst. Since 19995Easy install for non plumbers -Save yourself some money and install yourself!Water kept running in our toilet. Husband recommended a plumber. I looked up the fix from the manufacturer's website. I YouTube'd the video. I ordered the part from Amazon (part info located on inside of toilet tank) from the same people who produced the video. I got the part. Husband said wait til I come back from biz trip and I'll install fill valve. I didn't wait. This non technical housewife followed instructions and installed the new fill valve. Took me 15 minutes. I only needed a wrench to loosen/tighten the nut on the outside of the toilet. Toilet now runs like a champ. Quiet, like the old valve.Boom5Well it works, but the flush is totally different now My original 2009 Toto Ultramax toilet's valve started leaking, so I looked in the manual for the toilet, and this was the model for my particular Toto.I had my building install it while I was at work. When I got home, I looked in the tank, and found the water line to be about 1/4" less than it was. When I flush it now, there's no push into the bowl and the tank doesn't empty. It fills fine, no leaking. I sent an email to Korky, and they suggested maybe I needed a 528MP valve instead of the 528T, that maybe the tank to bowl ratio is 60/40, not 80/20, but I'm pretty sure it's 80/20.So I found the model number of my Toto and emailed the rep back, and they said I could use either valve, but to check the chain connected the flap to the valve and shorten it if it closes too soon - which would explain why there isn't anymore "oomph" to the flush. So instead of freaking myself out any further (plumbing frightens me, lol), I'm just holding the handle down about a 1/2 second longer, and hope for the best. My husband looked to see if he could increase the water level in the tank, but it appears the float is at the highest spot it could be. Oh well. Everything goes down, but like I said, there's no "oomph." It's a quiet flush, just a quick pull down and then the tank refills. 3Great product, easy to installThe plumber said it would cost around $400.00 to fix our TOTO toilet, which I think is crazy. So in researching, I found this replacement part. So its not the official TOTO part, big deal. This looks just like the original, not that it matters since its in your tank. It works well, and was easy to install. The hardest part of installation was getting into the small space. Otherwise, it was easy, and the directions are very clear. Why overspend? This is a great product!5Works very well! Takes some doing to get installed but once installed, it works very well. Way cheaper than the TOTO brand - and that's if you can find it. A little note on the installation - there is a white "pin" that pins the desired water level so don't make the mistake i did of forgetting to put it on. Anyway, take the 2 mins to read it and you will have no trouble with the install. Once installed, it works as advertised and seems quieter too compared to the original TOTO valve that was in there. 5Works for about a year then has the same issue.Bought in May 2017, now need another one in May 2018. Same problem... the toilet flushes but then it sticks and doesn't refill right away. Sometimes it sticks for a minute or two then starts filling. Other times you have to bang on the toilet to get it unstuck. Nothing unusual about our water and nothing else rubbing against it or obstructing normal operation.Funny thing I notice today that Amazon offers this as a "subscribe-and-save" item. Almost makes sense since you have to replace it so stinking often. I wish someone would make a quality (maybe brass) replacement part that would cost 3-5x more but would actually work for longer than 12 months.1There's no place like home TOTO, unless you fill valve fails... the original fill valve in our TOTO failed and I felt compelled to DIY the replacement.STEP ONE: Remove old fill valueSTEP TWO READ INSTRUCTIONS... oh wait, that's step one.Nothing a mop can't fix, and once I got the STEPS in proper order this was a pretty simple DIY fix. 3 years later and this fill valve is still fillin. 5Fails within a few years, switching back to the old tech! The installation is not necessarily easier than the older fluidmaster type but I liked the idea of being quieter. I hate the stopper tab installation because that makes it very difficult to adjust the height in place while the ring type from fluid master is adjustable in place. Debbie has a problem with this model is not installation is actually longevity. I ve seen many of these fail and leak not being able to stop the water within a few years (and I m not a plumber). I switch back to the old technology!3
