Customer Reviews

Very, VERY Noisy. I originally went with the HGST Deskstar NAS 3.5-Inch 4TB 7200RPM SATA III 64MB Cache Internal Hard Drive Kit (0S03664) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HHAJRU0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but that drive jumped from $156 to $216 due to WD taking over HGST and releasing a lower quality version of that drive, causing stocks of the original, much better drive to increase in price quite a bit. That original drive, despite being a NAS style drive, is quiet and very well made.I had heard that this drive is the next best thing, and essentially the same hardware as the previous one I had purchased, yet it's not even close. The noise level is off the charts, and is a fairly loud, crunchy, reverberating thumping sound that makes my PC case sound like a metal drum, despite being a case made for quiet use, with noise canceling panels and silicone standoffs for the drives. The bassy notes from it can literally be heard in the next room with the door closed. It's insane, and I'm fairly certain I won't be able to stand it, so it's likely something I will need to return. I'm thinking I'll shell out the extra $60 and go with the tried and true 4TB drive. What a mess.Update:Less than 2 months later and this drive is already failing. I'm getting "Current Pending Sector Count" with warnings, along with 157 Read Recovery Attempts and Number of Reported Uncorrectable Errors. This. Was. A. Ripoff. 1good drives, but bad seller seller 'The Server Factory' sold me used drives as new. pretty shady. drives had nearly 3 years of use on them with 11 power cycles. buy from 'The Server Factory' if you want to buy some server farms cycled out, dying drives. 1Failed after 20 minutes I bought 4 drives to use in a RAID 5 in a QNAP TR-004 box. After formatting the drives, I began transferring over data. 10 minutes into the transfer I hear a BEEP coming from the QNAP. I check and all the lights are green, which means my RAID is still healthy, however my transfer had paused. I told it to skip the file that it had problems transferring and move on to the next one. Another 10 minutes go by and I hear BEEP BEEP BEEP. This time the QNAP showed that one of the hard drives had failed. After reading several comments here about this seller sending out used drives as new, I have no confidence in this seller's merchandise and will be returning all of the drives. The seller shipped the products VERY quickly and in terrific, secure packaging, not that any of that matters now. 2One Star The drive I received was not new. According to its S.M.A.R.T information, it has over 25,650 hours on it 14TB drives and greater using external box must have controler support for > 3Tb I found that The internal controler card in an external box must have specific support for drives 3TB and greater in size, otherwise Windows 10 or Linux will only show 1.5 or 1.6TB max.Giving it 3 stars as the benifit of the doubt because I don't know how it would have performed at 4TB.Thank you amazon for your patience 3First Impressions I purchased one of these from DBSKY and recently finished torture testing and checking CrystalDiskInfo. I received a new drive. 0 power on hours. After putting it through it's paces I noted zero indication of failures in DiskInfo. The drive is now in production. If I get a failure I will update.I came here to write a review but noticed the drive was now even cheaper from DBSKY so I ordered another. Will update on that drive if it is any different. 5Great product! after many years of using HGST drives Wonderful product, I always use HGST drives in my home network, the oldest one I bought almost 5 years ago is still running fine, no problem at all. These two drives came on time as promised, I installed in a NAS enclosure in RAID 0 configuration (yes, I am confident enough!), performance is very fast even from a remote access point of view. The drive is very quiet, and initiation and configuration into a RAID configuration are fast and painless. The drive has a manufactured date of 12/2016, so it is a relatively new drive.I will report the durability a little bit later, I just installed the drives in my NAS unit.2-17-2018Installed in the NAS unit as raid 1, I did a lot of files copy and backup, so far so good after 2 weeks use, it is 50% full though after I have done with my backup. 5Stay away from these drives! Stay away from this product. I bought 4 of these due to the high ratings back in Nov 2016. This is for my NAS7004T. As of March 2017 one has already failed, looking at the warranty I'm better off buying a new one (other brand) then shipping this back on my own dime only to get a refurbished one....So much for the HST 5y full warranty! These were new drives bought from dbsky seller... 1DOA Ordered 4 drives for a RAID 10 setup. One DOA. Doesn't report to BIOS and makes loud click noise. 2two drives, one DOA I ordered two of these drives, one couldn't complete a full format (non-quick format), and the surface test using WinDFT failed. However, Amazon was quick to process a replacement! Expecting it in a week. Thanks.Edit: I received the replacement drive fast, and had time to re-test all three drives, and they all completed the full non-quick format (takes at least 8 hours on each drive). I ended-up deciding to buy the replacement drive as well. 3 out of 3 drives working! 5
