Customer Reviews

Take it from a FCC licensed Tech. It will do what it says and moreHi, I needed driveway coverage at my new home. So i ordered this $100 recorder from amazon. Not expecting much, i opened the box and found what i now know as a very capable unit. All the bells and whistles you could imagine The display is great allowing you a good amount of flexibility, and interfacing is a breeze with the builtin wizard for setup.I am tough on specs. because i am a retired Marine Electronic Tech. I used to install and repair such systems for owners and Captains. and dealers. This unit is capable for most any application. I will buy again when needed.5Still need to figure out why I'm having problems[REVISED 6/12/16]UPDATED TO THREE STARS. Seller confirmed that my IP camera must be ONVIF profile S and at least v2.3 but the camera is only v1.02 and the manufacturer said it is not upgradable but should still work due to forward compatibility. It does not and I cant fault the DVR for this. I have also emailed the seller/mfr to inquire why you are not able to view one motion event after the other without changing screens. I would like to be able to list specific motion events and then quickly cycle through them when reviewing recorded footage. I will update after I get a response but this should be a standard feature IMHO. I would also like to point out that the DVR I received does not have the same front face as the photo. Not sure why but the photo should be updated.[ORIGINAL REVIEW 6/10/16]TWO STARS. So far I am having issues with an Axis IP camera. The streaming video via a browser is perfect however when I connect it to this DVR the streaming image is blocky/pixelated during movement and also every second there is a flicker/stutter throughout the entire image. I haven't even tried to setup motion recording for this cam yet because I am sure that the stutter will trigger a motion event. Again, the cam image via a browser is crystal clear and artifact free. I am not sure that any of the camera settings in the Axis interface have any affect on the image in the DVR. It doesn't seem so. Please help before I am forced to return this item.I have two of the same Axis cams and both do the same thing with the DVR. I have also upgraded the Axis firmware on both cams.3Love this DVR...just one tiny thing...Great DVR. I chose this one, because it's the same interface as the analog Qsee I had. I didn't want to have to re-learn everything, so this was a great find for me. I started it up, put all of my network stuff in it, and was up in no time,(30 minutes) since everything was going to be the same. The app for my phone even worked from the Qsee I had. Same interface there too. The NAT was different, but no biggie. Lots of features. There is a OSD function on it for any cameras you have that are OSD, you can do it right from the DVR, which is great, and I wished I would have known that before I spent $17 on a UTC that DID NOT work. (ebay seller- getting a low rating..) HOWEVER, others are right, the fan is noisy, so I just ordered a 40mm Noctua and will replace it. It has a high pitched hum. Cameras work great with it, HD, and 960H. This is a great deal if it last for a year or two. I am using a WD purple HDD, 1TB, at the moment, and will go with a bigger one once I replace the 960H cams with 1080 cams. Very happy with it so far.----UPDATE----I installed the 40mm Noctua last night, much better, but still some noise coming through the baffles. DON'T CUT THEM OUT. Take a small piece of tape- electrical or blue masking - 1/4"x1/4" and cover a small part of them. That allows the air to still get out, but changes the flow pattern, and the noise level significantly. The Noctua fan is much thinner, but comes with screws, a noise reducer, and 2 pin adapter. Easy install. Extremely happy with it now. About the noise level of a cooling pad for a laptop. No high pitched hum.5Don t buy this!!!!I ve been using this for 3 years. I guess it is time to move on though. There have been no firmware updates in that time. So over time it lost support for all browsers except IE. The latest Apple IOS update has made the SuperLive Pro app unable to start. So now I have no way to access my security cameras from remote locations.Edit. The seller contacted me and stated that the app changed names to SuperLive Plus instead of SuperLive Pro. They are both available in the iOS app store which is confusing. They also stated that all I had to do was ask for the updates for the unit itself, but I've done that in the past and was asked why I wanted to update. When I stated it was due to browser support the only answer I got was:"You can download Internet Explorer browser from the internet. Like we previously stated, Microsoft Edge will not work. So it looks like the issue you're having is not about firmware update, it is that you will have to download and use Internet Explorer. If you google "Download Internet Explorer", we are sure you can find the link for it. Hope it helps."They answered the browser support comment with the following statement, " the IE was and is always the only browser that supports the DVR. This DVR never supported by any other browser besides IE. In fact, all commercial grade DVR can only be supported by IE. "I don't believe that to be true, but I haven't taken a poll of all the other commercially available NVRs.I'll give them a couple stars back, but most commercially available products that I use have a website for support and downloads of regular firmware releases. They also support modern web browsers. I am able to continue to use the product at this time with the new app, but I'll likely be looking to upgrade to a better NVR as soon as it is possible.3Exceeded my expectations. The interface on this DVR looks so much more professional than other DVR s I have used over the years. The setup was quick and easy. Have all 8 of my TVI cameras going in in time and I even got out a couple older OVIF cameras to see if the DVR would be easy to setup the IP cameras. It found both IP cameras, which are different makes and models vey quickly and was recording with ease. The app has been updated recently which shows me the manufacture is continuing to work on updates and fixes. I have had one instance where the DVR was rebooting every couple of mins, but I reset the router, the DVR and formatted the SSD and it hasn t done it since. Recommend and also the TVI cameras they offer have been a nice upgrade.5Excellent nvr.Works well with my existing analog cameras. Motion detection works well. E-mail notification on alarm or motion works well, option of 3 picture attachments in the email. Adding some ip cameras soon. Note: you must port forward both the http port and the server port through the firewall for access outside of your lan.5Where is the Quality ???I purchased this a little over a year ago. Its worked great. Easy to set up and had worked without issues. Then, I was upgrading the Hard Drive and because of the length of the Sata cable, I had to remove it from the main board. I pushed in the clip and pulled up and the entire sata connector lifted off the board. I was not concerned at the time, as I have pulled these off many times on computer boards. They usually just slide back on the round pins and your back in business. Well, with this board i was not so fortunate. They used really thin pieces of metal that would not let me reattach the sata connector. I contacted support and they got back to me same day explaining since my warranty was only 1 year, I was out of luck. No replace parts I could even purchase. I had to purchase another unit. I am giving this 3 stars because of quality. It would have been a 5 star. There is no way the sata connector should have pulled off that easy. I have worked as a tech for decades and never seen such a cheaply constructed piece of hardware. UPDATE: HDVIEW Support got back to me and requested I sent the unit back to them for attempted repair. They made an exception since my warranty had just expired. They promised not to charge me if they could reattach the sata port. This was last week. Today I received my unit back via UPS. I opened the box and found a new unit. I am back up and running again thanks to HDVIEW and their support staff. I upgraded my rating to 5 stars since the company went well beyond my expectations of replacing the out of warranty unit. The support communications was prompt as was the unit replacement. Just use care when disconnecting the cable from the sata port.5No Compatible Output to MonitorNeither VGA monitor nor HDMI monitor found a compatible signal from this DVR, thus I was unable to even get started using this DVR. The FAQ (quite extensive) said I could change the video output by pressing/holding the EXIT and ESC keys but, alas, my remote has only an EXIT key but no ESC key. Alternatively, one could go to the menu and select an option to change the video output - useful only if you could actually see a menu.My HDMI display showed only a splash screen telling me to wait, then the monitor reported that an incompatible signal was received from the DVR. I could not find a way to query/contact the seller, only a user forum. It appears that support of this product is left only to the users. If I cannot complete the setup of this DVR it is going back to Amazon.UPDATE: I found a HDMI monitor that could display the output and completing the setup went smoothly. Seller explained that the output control function is available via the DVR front buttons (not the remote). Configuring the LAN & WLAN access was not difficult as was the mobile (Android) access with SuperLivePro. Both AHD and lower res cctv cameras can be viewed simultaneously. The manual for the DVR was found on an accompanying CD. Instructions are detailed, extensive and in American English. I would recommend this DVR to a friend.4Easy to configure and use.I received item promptly and it was packaged well. dvr was easy to setup, I did run into an issue setting up a poe camera that I had, the camera I have is a reolink 4mp poe camera. I could not for the life of me get it to see the poe camera, eithr manually or automatically. I contacted HDview and they were a great help they suggested many things to try in the end the issue ended up being firmware on my poe camera. Once I updated that the dvr found it with no issues! I have several different types of cameras hooked up to this thing. I have a couple of 600tvl cameras and they work great. for some reason they look clearer on this dvr than on my old one. I also have 3 ahd 720p 1.3 mp cameras and they look great! Also the remote app for your phone is easy to setup. I had an older dvr and the remote app I had to use was a pain to setup. Remember you have to forward a couple of ports on your dvr for you to be able to see your cameras remotely---------------------------UPDATE-------------------------------------7/15/16So just a quick update. I had an error a few months back and I had to reset the whole dvr back to factory. and not sure if it was a router issue or what, but even with the proper ports forwarded I could not view my system remotely I removed the port forward and still it would not work. I had to reset my router to factory settings then forward the ports again and then it worked, may be it was a router issue but I am just letting you guys know what I ran into, Everything is up and running and has been fine since then. I still would leave it at 5 starseven with those small issues.5Great DVR, LOUD fan Very nice DVR for the price, but the reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the fan inside is so loud, I had to replace it with a quieter fan. I could hear it all the way across the house. I might be sensitive to these small high speed fan noises but I just couldn't take it.Setup was very easy, but if you want to use your phone to look at your cameras, you must use both the http and server ports to gain access. I had to change the http port to 81 so as not to conflict with my Home Server, but that was very easy.If this is going to be in a closet or out of ear shot, I can strongly recommend it.. 4Great DVR I've used this DVR for maybe 6 months now. It has been an excellent machine. After learning to navigate the on screen menus, you can do just about anything you need. But better yet, if you have an iPad, download the free app SuperLiveHD. It appears to be made to be used with this DVR. You can control most functions of the DVR from your iPad. The best is playing back recordings and watching them on the iPad. It works great. 5Low cost but GREAT SYSTEMBought this for a customer... Seemed "cheaper" in an unbranded box and the instructions were hardly helpful in bad english. I got the install done and set up the DDNS and found out that the Q-See QT View app works very well (you have to scan a barcode then enter a valid URL after). The IP cameras work flawlessly and I was surprised at the amount of options in the settings. If you know what you're doing, this is a VERY good NVR/DVR and the app that works with this is even better. HD VIEW: make your own instructions and give the suggestion for the mobile app, it works AMAZING for both android and IOS devices. The only thing I was less impressed with is the web login portal. It looks dated and is difficult to navigate, although it does work well. I am unclear if 3MP+ IP cameras will view at any other resolution besides 1080p (it will only record up to 1080), but MOST homes and small businesses dont need more than 1080p imho.5I've tried everything to find a good point of contact to help me get this set ... Ok, I've tried everything to find a good point of contact to help me get this set up, no luck. I'll upgrade my rating if someone gets back with me before I return the product.Update 24MAR2016: I received a response from the seller regarding setup, but i'm still unable to connect my Amcrest IP cameras. It always shows 'connecting' and never connects. Anyone else solved this issue please feel free to chime in.Update 26MAR2016: I was able to connect the IP cameras to the NVR. I had to reset everything, search for the IP cameras, then configure the correct IP settings (the NVR does not seem to capture the correct IP address of my Amcrest IP cameras for some odd reason). A lot of time consuming trial and error; a troubleshooting guide or a customer rep would have been great hence the reason I only gave 4 stars. Other than the IP camera issue it seems to be a good product if it continues to operate as it is now. 4Perfect for my needs! The only product I could find that was had more than two ip inputs! This product and subsequent higher models offer the me a great range of flexibility starting from being able to use the existing wires to upgrade to HD...when I'm ready, as well as the minimum four ip with my model. I would and have recommended to anyone I thought would benefit! The cost of the unit was pretty good too! Would highly recommend to anyone starting out or upgrading. Or in the need for additional cameras but can't get a signal wire there, just add Onvif WiFi camera or two or four or more! 5
